Tadashi Ikeda, Andrew M. L. Lever, Howard C. Thomas – 1 September 1986 – Ninety per cent of patients infected in adult life with the hepatitis B virus clear the virus completely and 10% develop chronic infection. There is evidence for the involvement of interferon in the clearance of acute hepatitis B virus infection.
Ellen Kahn, Fredric Daum, James Markowitz, Saul Teichberg, Lynn Duffy, Rita Harper, Harvey Aiges – 1 September 1986 – Liver biopsies and/or autopsy specimens from 17 children (ages 1 week to 5 years) with nonsyndromatic paucity of the interlobular bile ducts were studied by light and electron microscopy. Initial biopsies were obtained before 90 days of age from all patients, and two or more specimens were available from nine. No specific underlying condition was found in nine infants.
Jorge J. Gumucio, Maryann May, Caroline Dvorak, Jose Chianale, Veronica Massey – 1 September 1986 – The objective of this study was to isolate hepatocytes of the proximal half (Zones 1 and 2) or distal half (Zones 2 and 3) of the liver acinus.
Philippe Gaulard, Elie Serge Zafrani, Philippe Mavier, Francisco Dario Rocha, Jean‐Pierre Farcet, Marine Divine, Corinne Haioun, Yvon Pinaudeau – 1 September 1986 – Three cases of a peculiar form of peripheral T‐cell lymphoma presenting as predominant hepatic disease with splenomegaly are reported. The three patients had marked liver enlargement without lymphadenopathy; white blood cell count was normal, and modifications of hepatic tests were mild. In the three cases, the diagnosis of the lymphoma was mainly based on the results of hepatic morphological changes.
J. Michael Schiff, Sandra L. Huling, Albert L. Jones – 1 September 1986 – The degradation of asialoglycoproteins in hepatocytes has been well described in several animal models, but no direct evidence has yet been obtained for asialoglycoprotein processing in the primate liver. A double radiolabeling strategy was employed in the experiments described in this paper to evaluate the fate of asialoorosomucoid in the squirrel monkey. Intravenously injected asialoorosomucoid was taken up by the liver with a half‐time of 1 min.
Leslie J. Schoenfield – 1 September 1986 – We treated nine patients with functioning gallbladders containing one to three symptomatic radiolucent stones not larger than 25 mm in diameter, as well as five patients with stones in the common bile duct that were not removable by endoscopic procedures, by means of extracorporeally generated shock waves during general anesthesia. The patients with gallbladder stones received adjuvant treatment with a combination of ursodeoxycholic acid and chenodeoxycholic acid.
Gary L. Davis, Jay H. Hoofnagle – 1 September 1986
Susumu Ito, Yasuhiro Tsuji, Akiharu Iwasaki, Naoyuki Kitagawa, Yoshiyuki Tamura, Setsuro Fujii – 1 September 1986 – A total of 107 recipients, who did not show any evidence of hepatic disorders in pretransfusional liver function tests and gave a negative reaction for HBsAg, were observed from 3 weeks to 3 months after blood transfusion of 711 units of blood. The blood was judged suitable for use in transfusion because it had a normal level of ALT activity and gave a negative reaction for HBsAg. The guanase activities of the blood used for transfusion were examined.
Heinrich Wernze, Wolfgang Tittor, Matthias Goerig – 1 September 1986 – Arterial and hepatovenous concentrations of circulating prostaglandin E2 and prostaglandin F2α, the stable metabolites of prostacyclin and thromboxane A2 were measured in patients with chronic liver disease and compared with those in control patients with coronary artery disease but without hepatic dysfunction. Specific radioimmunoassays were used after extraction on octadecyl C 18‐silica gel columns and thin‐layer chromatography.
