Nuclear receptors and liver disease: Summary of the 2017 basic research symposium

Many nuclear receptors are ligand‐activated transcription factors that regulate the expression of their target genes by modulating transcriptional activities and epigenetic changes.

Lymphocyte‐to‐Monocyte Ratio Is a Predictor of Survival After Liver Transplantation for Hepatocellular Carcinoma

We investigated the prognostic value of the lymphocyte‐to‐monocyte ratio (LMR) in patients who underwent living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We retrospectively analyzed the records of 216 patients who underwent LDLT for HCC.

An Association Between Core Mutations in Hepatitis B Virus Genotype F1b and Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Alaskan Native People

Here, we analyzed the clinical and virological significance of genotype F1b in long‐term serial samples from 20 HCC patients with HBV infection.

Con: Steroids Should Not Be Withdrawn in Transplant Recipients With Autoimmune Hepatitis

Heneghan – 12 June 2018 – Autoimmune liver diseases (AILDs) can recur following liver transplantation (LT) despite immunosuppressive therapy, with implications for graft survival. Although the evidence is not robust, disease recurrence seems to occur in the presence of less intense and/or steroid‐free immunosuppression (IS) in particular in the case of autoimmune hepatitis (AIH). The main risk factor for AIH recurrence is the severity of disease activity in the explant and potential donor/recipient human leukocyte antigen D‐related 3 (DR3) mismatch.

TCPOBOP‐Induced Hepatomegaly and Hepatocyte Proliferation are Attenuated by Combined Disruption of MET and EGFR Signaling

Michalopoulos – 11 June 2018 – TCPOBOP (1,4‐Bis [2‐(3,5‐Dichloropyridyloxy)] benzene) is a constitutive androstane receptor (CAR) agonist that induces robust hepatocyte proliferation and hepatomegaly without any liver injury or tissue loss. TCPOBOP‐induced direct hyperplasia has been considered to be CAR‐dependent with no evidence of involvement of cytokines or growth factor signaling.
