Addition of [18F]Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography With Computed Tomography to Cross‐Sectional Imaging Improves Staging and Alters Management in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Binu V. John, Sean Aubuchon, Bassam Dahman, Venkata Rajesh Konjeti, Douglas Heuman, Jennifer Hubert, Smitha Thomas, Yangyang Deng, Cynthia Solomon, Latha Thankam Sundaram, Eleanor Love, Amit G. Singal, James L. Tatum – 3 March 2020 – In this work, we characterize the value of positron emission tomography (PET) with computed tomography (CT) in combination with cross‐sectional imaging for staging and prognostication of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients.

Multispectral Imaging Enables Characterization of Intrahepatic Macrophages in Patients With Chronic Liver Disease

Omar A. Saldarriaga, Benjamin Freiberg, Santhoshi Krishnan, Arvind Rao, Jared Burks, Adam L. Booth, Bradley Dye, Netanya Utay, Monique Ferguson, Abdellah Akil, Minkyung Yi, Laura Beretta, Heather L. Stevenson – 3 March 2020 – Intrahepatic macrophages influence the composition of the microenvironment, host immune response to liver injury, and development of fibrosis. Compared with stellate cells, the role of macrophages in the development of fibrosis remains unclear. Multispectral imaging allows detection of multiple markers in situ in human formalin‐fixed, paraffin‐embedded tissue.

Physical Function, Physical Activity, and Quality of Life After Liver Transplantation

Michael A. Dunn, Shari S. Rogal, Andres Duarte‐Rojo, Jennifer C. Lai – 3 March 2020 – Robust physical activity after liver transplantation is an important determinant of longterm health, similar in its importance to the value of pretransplant activity for withstanding the immediate stress of transplantation. Although transplantation normally enables rapid recovery of liver synthetic and metabolic functions, the recovery of physical capacity and performance to normal levels is delayed and often incomplete.
