Relationship of ELF and PIIINP With Liver Histology and Response to Vitamin E or Pioglitazone in the PIVENS Trial

Samer Gawrieh, Laura A. Wilson, Katherine P. Yates, Oscar W. Cummings, Eduardo Vilar‐Gomez, Veeral Ajmera, Kris V. Kowdley, William M. Rosenberg, James Tonascia, Naga Chalasani – 4 February 2021 – Enhanced liver fibrosis score (ELF) and one of its components, amino‐terminal propeptide of type III procollagen (PIIINP) are promising noninvasive biomarkers of liver histology in patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).

Development and Validation of a Model to Predict Long‐Term Survival After Liver Transplantation

David Goldberg, Alejandro Mantero, Craig Newcomb, Cindy Delgado, Kimberly Forde, David Kaplan, Binu John, Nadine Nuchovich, Barbara Dominguez, Ezekiel Emanuel, Peter P. Reese – 3 February 2021 – Patients are prioritized for liver transplantation (LT) under an “urgency‐based” system using the Model for End‐Stage Liver Disease score. This system focuses solely on waitlist mortality, without considerations of posttransplant morbidity, mortality, and health care use. We sought to develop and internally validate a continuous posttransplant risk score during 5‐year and 10‐year time horizons.

Sleep Disturbance Is Associated With the Presence of Portosystemic Collaterals in Patients With Compensated Cirrhosis

Maya Balakrishnan, Caroline Falker, Samantha Conley, Maria Ciarleglio, Yanhong Deng, Nancy S. Redeker, Guadalupe Garcia‐Tsao – 2 February 2021 – Disturbed sleep is common among patients with cirrhosis.
