Kristin Carlson, John Kink, Peiman Hematti, David P. Al‐Adra – 25 August 2020 – Longterm liver graft dysfunction and immunological rejection remain common adverse events, in part due to early acute rejection episodes initiated by ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI) immediately following transplantation. Novel treatment methods are therefore required to ameliorate liver IRI and to promote longterm allograft acceptance.

Shashi Bala, Charles D. Calenda, Donna Catalano, Mrigya Babuta, Karen Kodys, Imad A. Nasser, Barbara Vidal, Gyongyi Szabo – 19 August 2020 – Acute liver injury (ALI) is associated with multiple cellular events such as necrosis, apoptosis, oxidative stress and inflammation, which can lead to liver failure. In this study, we demonstrate a new role of microRNA (miR)‐208a in ALI. ALI was induced in wild‐type (WT) and miR‐208a knockout (KO) mice by CCl4 administration. Increased alanine aminotransferase and decreased hepatic miR‐208a levels were found in WT mice after acute CCl4 treatment.

Paulo Fontes, Junji Komori, Roberto Lopez, Wallis Marsh, Eric Lagasse – 18 August 2020 – Orthotopic liver transplantation continues to be the only effective therapy for patients with end‐stage liver disease. Unfortunately, many of these patients are not considered transplant candidates, lacking effective therapeutic options that would address both the irreversible progression of their hepatic failure and the control of their portal hypertension. In this prospective study, a swine model was exploited to induce subacute liver failure.
