AASLD Announces Opening of Application for Women’s Initiative Committee Leadership Program

Alexandria, VA—The American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) is pleased to announce that applications are now open for its 2024 Women's Initiative Committee (WIC) Leadership Program. The committee aims to support and empower women in hepatology through mentorship, professional development education, and networking.

The Women's Leadership Program (WLP) is a 12-month program designed to provide selected mentees with the guidance, support, and confidence necessary to excel in their hepatology careers.  The program pairs mentees with experienced AASLD faculty mentors who are leaders in hepatology, offering personalized advice, resources, and networking opportunities.

Key Features of the Mentorship Program Include:

  • Personalized Mentorship: Mentees will be matched with mentors based on their specific career goals and interests.
  • Professional Development: The program includes webinars and an in-person meeting at the 75th annual Liver Meeting, which focuses on leadership.
  • Networking Opportunities: Participants will have the chance to connect with peers and leaders in the field, fostering a supportive community and collaborative relationships.
  • Career Guidance: Mentors aim to provide insights into hepatology career pathways and help set and achieve professional goals.

"We are thrilled to open applications for the second annual Women’s Leadership Program," said Tatyana Kushner, MD, MSCE, Chair of WIC. "Our goal is to support and grow the next generation of women in hepatology by providing them with the resources and mentorship needed to succeed. We believe this program is crucial in fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment within medicine.”

The mentorship program is open to all women who reside in North America and are within (5) years of completing their fellowship as an MD/DO. New for 2024, WIC invites Advanced Practice Providers with three (3) years of hepatology experience to apply for the program.

Interested mentees can apply using the Women’s Leadership Program application link. The application process includes completing the online application, a current CV, a personal statement, and one (1) letter of recommendation. All applications must be submitted by Friday, August 16th.
