Protect the Hepatitis B Birth Dose

The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) has voted to end the universal hepatitis B birth dose, recommending instead that infants born to mothers who test negative receive their first vaccine at two months of age. This change contradicts decades of evidence and puts newborns at greater risk of lifelong hepatitis B infection and liver cancer.

There is still time to prevent this policy from moving forward. Tell Congress to urge HHS and CDC to reject this proposal and retain universal birth-dose vaccination in the immunization schedule.

AASLD and the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) announce a new Practice Guideline on the Treatment of Chronic Hepatitis B, now published in HEPATOLOGY.

The guideline provides clinicians with evidence-based recommendations for prevention, surveillance, and treatment of chronic HBV.
