Biography

Dr. Nabeel Wahid is currently completing a combined Transplant Hepatology and Gastroenterology/Hepatology fellowship at Northwestern Medicine. He was previously the Chief Medicine Resident at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and completed his residency in the Department of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine/NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Wahid received his B.S. in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology from University of California, Los Angeles and later obtained his M.D. from University of California, Irvine, where he was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He previously worked for Teach for America, a non-profit organization aimed at eliminating educational inequity in public schools, through which he obtained his M.A. in Secondary Education and taught as a full-time high school biology teacher in the South Bronx neighborhood of New York City.

Dr. Wahid's primary research interests include disparities in liver transplantation, biomarkers for prediction of acute kidney injury in patients with cirrhosis, endohepatology, and alcohol-related liver disease. In addition to research, he has a special interest in quality improvement and is the Co-Lead for Liver Fellow Network, an open-source hepatology-oriented educational resource for trainees.

Following fellowship, Dr. Wahid hopes to pursue a clinically oriented career in Gastroenterology and Hepatology with a focus on quality improvement/cost-effective care and increasing access to liver transplantation.
