AASLD / NASPGHAN Pediatric Symposium

Description

Clinicians, scientists, epidemiologists and surgeons will discuss the latest scientific breakthroughs behind the epidemiology of the global outbreak of severe acute hepatitis in children during the Winter 2021. During a Q&A time, these international experts will discuss disease incidence, the latest efforts to identify potential etiologies and predisposing factors for the development of hepatitis in otherwise previously healthy children.

Objectives

  • Review what is known of the proposed etiology of the epidemic of severe acute hepatitis in children and the possible role of Adeno associated virus
  • Discuss the genetic and immunologic host factors that may predispose to a more severe infection
  • Review the global clinical and scientific response to this outbreak including how the COVID pandemic response informs current and future approaches to infectious liver diseases, especially in a pediatric population
