Sumera I. Ilyas, M.D, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. She is a physician-scientist who underwent training in internal medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and subsequently completed Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology fellowships at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester. Her academic focus is hepatobiliary neoplasia. She is the director of the Mayo Clinic Hepatobiliary Neoplasia Clinic and Transplant Oncology Clinic. She has an NIH/NCI-funded discovery program focused on the immunobiology of cholangiocarcinoma and development of combination immune-directed therapies for the treatment of cholangiocarcinoma. She was selected as the Emerging leader for the Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary Cancers Program within the Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center. She serves on the Scientific and Medical Advisory Board for the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation and co-chairs the CCF Research Fellowship Program. She co-organized the FASEB Scientific Research Conference on Cholangiocarcinoma in 2023 and co-chaired the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation Annual conference in 2024.
