I am a Professor of Clinical Medicine and Director of Critical Care Nephrology at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, and a Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology. I am Nationally and Internationally known nephrologist with expertise in the area of AKI in critically ill patients in the ICU, especially in patients with cirrhosis. Over the past several years, I have co-organized several International consensus meetings that have resulted in significant contribution to the field of AKI, hepatology and liver transplantation. These include Consensus meeting on 1) Hepatorenal Syndrome, which became one of the most significant contributions to the field of liver transplantation as it re-defined AKI in patients with liver disease, 2) simultaneous liver-kidney (SLK) transplantation 3) International multidisciplinary consensus meeting on the Management of Critically Ill Patients with Cirrhosis awaiting Liver Transplantation, which has become a basis for management of this patient population, 4) on AKI in Cardiac and Vascular Surgery, 5) AKI in COVID-19 and 6) Sepsis associated AKI. I am the author of more than 100 articles, reviews and book chapters and have lectured internationally on topics pertaining to AKI in Critically Ill Patients with liver disease.
