I am a physician-scientist and hepatologist at the University of Southern California with a research interest in Drug-Induced Liver Injury and Autoimmune Liver Diseases. I study mechanisms of liver injury and hepatotoxicity with a particular focus on cell death pathways using basic, animal model, and translational approaches. My lab currently focuses on Immune-mediated Liver Injury from Checkpoint Inhibitors and the complex interplay if signaling mechanisms leading to hepatotoxicity in immunotherapy. My clinical research centers around AIH and PBC in underserved Latinx populations, and I am a co-investigator on the Drug-Induced Liver Injury Network (DILIN). I am an active member of the liver community, serve on editorial boards for GI and Liver journals. In addition, I am a reviewer for the NIH's LiverTox Expert Review Committee, a member of the AASLD Foundation Research Awards Committee Study Section, and Chair of the AASLD Hepatotoxicity Special Interest Group.
