Biography

Jasmohan S. Bajaj, is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Virginia Commonwealth University and Richmond VA Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. Dr. Bajaj finished training in India, followed by Medicine and GI/Hepatology training in the United States. He also earned a master's degree in Epidemiology. Active in research, Dr. Bajaj has served as a principal investigator or co‐investigator for numerous clinical trials in hepatic encephalopathy, chronic liver disease, and microbiome. Dr. Bajaj's research has been funded through the NIH, AHRQ, ACG and Veterans Affairs. His work has been published in Nature, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, the American Journal of Gastroenterology, and Liver Transplantation, among other journals. Dr. Bajaj is the Co-Editor-in-Chief for the American Journal of Gastroenterology and is on the editorial board for Hepatology, Journal of Hepatology and Liver Transplantation.

Dr. Bajaj frequently presents his work nationally and internationally at meetings, grand rounds, and symposia. He was a member of the Hepatic Encephalopathy and ACLF Guidelines Writing Committee. He is also a fellow of several medical associations, including the AGA, ACG, AASLD and FRCP (London).

He was elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the Association for American Physicians . Dr. Bajaj was the Chairperson of the Acute‐on‐Chronic Liver Failure Special Interest Group at the AASLD and is the Past-President of ISHEN. He is the chair of the North American Consortium for the Study of End‐Stage Liver Disease, Co-PI of the CLEARED consortium, and a member of Central leadership team for Liver Disease at the Veterans Health Administration.
