Dr. Malhi is a consultant in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology with a joint appointment in Physiology and a Professor of Medicine and Physiology at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. She currently serves as the Vice Chair for the division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Dr. Malhi's laboratory studies lipotoxic endoplasmic reticulum stress, with particular research interest in mechanisms of liver injury and inflammation in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis pathogenesis. Her research laboratory focuses on lipotoxicity, endoplasmic reticulum stress, and the role of extracellular vesicle lipid mediators in cell-to-cell communication in the pathogenesis of liver diseases. She also has an interest in biomarker development in nonalcoholic and alcoholic steatohepatitis, and drug discoervy for alcoholic hepatitis.
