Flavio Paterno, MD, MPH, FACS is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. He completed his General Surgery Residency at Yale University in New Haven, CT, and his Transplant Surgery Fellowship at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, TX. He also holds a Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in Biostatistics from the University of Cincinnati.
Dr. Paterno is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
His areas of expertise include abdominal transplant surgery, hepato-biliary surgery, robotic and minimally invasive surgery.
He has authored over 40 peer-reviewed scientific articles, several book chapters, and serves as the principal investigator on multiple research grants. His research interests include molecular biomarkers in hepatocellular carcinoma, healthcare access disparities, clinical outcomes in transplant and general surgery, large database analysis, and innovation in surgical devices and technology.
