I am a Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and I serve as the Director and Chair of Mayo Clinic Transplant Center in Arizona, the largest transplant center in the US. I received my medical degree from the University of Jordan School of Medicine, completed internal medicine training at the University of Missouri at Columbia, where I served as chief resident, and then completed Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology fellowships at Mayo Clinic Florida. I started my career at the University of Minnesota/Minneapolis VA Medical center, where I served as the director of the hepatitis C Resource Center. I was part of the ILTS consortium that came out with the consensus statement on immunosuppression in liver transplant recipients. My role in education comes from strong involvement in the GI fellowship, transplant hepatology fellowship, and the Mayo Clinic Medical School, where I was honored to receive several teaching and clinical excellence awards from fellows and colleagues. I have ongoing grants to assess predictors of recurrence in patients transplanted for cholangiocarcinoma, DCD outcomes, and I lead the Mayo Clinic Enterprise effort to increase the utilization of HCV viremic grafts in solid organ recipient.
