Amir Zarrinpar, MD, PhD, DABOM, AGAF is an Associate Professor of Gastroenterology at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). His clinical expertise encompasses general gastroenterology, with a particular focus on obesity and metabolic disorders. In the research domain, Dr. Zarrinpar investigates the interplay between circadian biology, gut physiology, and the gut microbiome. His work aims to understand how these factors collectively influence conditions such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, metabolic associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), and other metabolic disorders. A significant aspect of his research involves exploring the reciprocal interactions between the gut microbiome and host circadian rhythms, as well as developing engineered native bacteria to modulate physiological functions.
