This meet-the-expert session will provide an opportunity for trainees and early career professionals in hepatology to share experiences, insights, and strategies for navigating the career pathway in Hepatology with a focus on those identified as LGBTQ+. The discussion will include practical strategies for transitioning from fellow to faculty and building a successful career in hepatology, with a particular emphasis on the unique challenges faced by individuals identified as LGBTQ+. The session will be led by both well-established and early-career hepatology faculty members who will share their own experiences and offer practical tips and advice for overcoming obstacles and achieving success in their careers. Participants will also have the opportunity to network and build connections with other professionals in the field and learn about career development resources and opportunities.

Objectives

  • Participants will identify and discuss strategies for a smooth transition from fellow to faculty, including tips for finding job postings, preparing for interviews, and how to assess institutional culture and diversity during the job search process
  • Participants will identify and discuss unique challenges faced by sexual and gender minorities in different stages of their careers and ways to mitigate them
