Biography

Melissa Palmer, MD has been a Hepatologist since 1989 and was in the inaugural class of AASLD Fellows in 2014. Dr. Palmer was in a solo practice devoted to Hepatology until 2009 at which time she became a Professor at NYU Langone and Director of Hepatology at NYU Plainview. She is also an experienced biotech/pharma executive and held leadership positions in in many pharmaceutical and biotech companies (Head of Hepatology at Takeda and CMO Gannex/Ascletis). She is currently an independent liver disease consultant (CEO Liver Consulting LLC) to the biotech and pharmaceutical industry. Dr. Palmer graduated from Columbia University and was trained in Hepatology (as well as medical school) at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. Since 1987, she has been the primary or senior author of numerous hepatology-related manuscripts which have been published in peer-reviewed journals, including, numerous guidelines related to DILI. She has authored many medical and lay-person books and book chapters in liver disease and contributed to three encyclopedias on various liver-related topics.
