Nov 13 2023
Room 309 - Hynes Convention Center
10:00 - 11:00 AM EST

Description

The sexual and gender minorities (SGM) people faced not only health but also psychosocial, economic, and legal disparities in accessing and receiving healthcare in general. Although specific data on liver transplants is limited, we believe such disparity also exists in transplant care, given both medical and social determinants of health are important in the process. However, this issue has not previously been well-recognized and studied. Given liver transplant is a life-saving intervention for patients with end stage liver disease, it is critical to increase awareness and encourage research on this topic to better understand and further address this critical issue. This session will facilitate the discussion about this critical topic between the AASLD LGBTQ task force and AASLD members to understand the challenges that the clinician face while taking care of LGBTQ people in the transplant setting. We face while taking care of LGBTQ people in the transplant setting. We will also exchange thoughts and experiences about the best plan to move forward.
