Description

This session will feature a keynote address from Dr. Andrea Reid, Associate Dean for Student and Multicultural Affairs Program at Harvard Medical School and Hepatology Faculty at Massachusetts General Hospital. She will share her experience in overcoming barriers in the ascent to leadership as a woman and underrepresented minority in hepatology. Dr. Reid will discuss strategies at the individual and programmatic level for overcoming these barriers.

Dr. Reid's talk will be followed by a moderated Q&A with other leaders in hepatology; Dr. Guadalupe Garcia-Tsao, Dr. Marina Serper and Dr. Nazia Selzner.

Objectives

  • Outline strategies to overcome obstacles to ascending to leadership as a woman and URM in gastroenterology
  • Evaluate ways to overcome imposter syndrome in environments where real bias and exclusion exacerbates feelings of self-doubt
  • Provide strategies to improve negotiation of needed recourses to ascend professionally (i.e., salary, protected time, research space)
