AASLD / NASPGHAN Pediatric Symposium

Description

In this session, presenters will discuss implications for liver deficiency in primary immune deficiency syndromes and considerations for the liver in patients pre/peri/post hematopoietic stem cell transplant. Liver disease in iron overload syndromes and sickle cell hepatopathy will be addressed along with the challenges of achieving hemostasis in the setting of cirrhosis. There will be opportunities for discussion with a Q&A discussion following each presentation.

Objectives

  • Describe features of liver-associated complications in primary immune deficiency/dysregulation, indications for hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT), and commonly utilized conditioning regimens in pediatric aged patients
  • Review mechanisms for altered coagulation in patients with cirrhosis, provide guidance on the use of current and novel testing of the coagulation cascade, and anticoagulation and pro-coagulant agent therapy considerations in pediatric patients with cirrhosis
  • Identify and characterize hematologic disorders and implications for liver disease
